Striped Evening Muumuu
Year: 1970s
Type: Clothing
Catalog #: SF_2701
The muumuu underwent a fashion transition from tropical island wear that was loose and cool out of necessity, to a fashion trend in the mid-20thcentury. Although Slobodkina was not a trend follower, she embraced the Muumuu for its simplicity and comfort.
This “black and white striped” cotton evening muumuu with red trim was made at the same time and out of the same materials as the cloth collage “Simpler by the Yard” and “Escape No. 2.” It was worn by Slobodkina at the open house party/exhibition (1972) of the home she designed at 20 West Terrace Road in Great Neck, NY.
