Painted during the summer of 1933, under the growing influence of Bolotowsky’s teachings. Soon after, Slobodkina and Bolotowsky married, enabling Slobodkina to gain American citizenship and to quit the National Academy of Design (which she disliked, and attended only for visa purposes).
