Slobodkina was trained by her mother (a professional seamstress) in skills for accessorizing garments. During this time she became proficient in the art of crocheting and beading. Slobodkina deconstructed an old mink jacket to supply material for this hat trimmed with crocheted ribbon and recycled beads.
