During the 1940s and 1950s, Slobodkina worked for the export firm of her future husband, William Urquhart. There she collected everyday office materials and remnants from manufacturing which she later included in her art. In this work, Slobodkina incorporated metal punch press waste to create both texture and patterned repetition.
